You always hear about people being visual or auditory or kinetic. But you don’t hear much about people being olfactory. Obviously, I’m auditory (notice I said “hear” twice), but my sense of smell is probably second in importance. I smell everything. I work in a microbiology lab, and I can tell the difference between strep and staph by smell. I can tell the enterics by smell, especially E. coli.
Anyway, I bought some yarn from Bartlett Yarns, and it is very…how shall I phrase it…rustic. It’s spun on the woolen system, instead of the worsted system. That’s just me trying to sound erudite. I don’t know the difference. I looked it up, but it went through my brain without sticking to anything. Anyway, it is very fragrant. It smells like wool…a lot. The lanolin is still in it, so when you’re working with it, you get it on your hands. Very interesting feeling. I like it. When I ordered it and got my package in the mail, I opened it up, and my cat, Parker, dove right into the box.
If that yarn is what sheep smell like, sign me up for shepherding class! Mmm, yummy. I was knitting on the bus, and I kept bringing the swatch up to my nose to smell it. I’m sure my fellow bus riders thought I was weird. Who fucking cares. Have you seen some of the people who ride the bus? Human DNA is a cruel mistress.
