I finished my crochet hooded cowl this morning (I told you that crochet was FAST), and it’s too big. The hood is perfect, but the cowl was too long (deep) and too big around.
So, I’m unraveling and making another. This time, I’m starting the hood from the top of the head (thus eliminating that pointy bit when the hood is sewn up) and then after the hood is the proper length I’ll add stitches at either end so it wraps around my neck. I think it’ll work.
As I’m crocheting it, I’m trying to work out how I would knit it. I think casting on as one would for a toe up sock would be the ticket. Instead of knitting all the way around, you turn and go back, so it’s closed at one end and open on the other. I can’t imagine I’m the only person who ever thought of knitting/crocheting a hood from the top of the head. I’ve also thought of shaping the hood with short rows to eliminate the pointy bit.
I think I’m a budding designer, but I don’t have all the free time that women with husbands and no job (save the designing) do.
I should have pictures of my new hooded cowl in a day or so.
